Winthrop, WA

Last weekend, Ryan decided he wanted to take a road trip. He can't help it, it's in his blood. Just ask his dad! Anyway, east of Blaine in Washington State and North of Blaine in Canada there is a line of Mountains called the Cascades. The Mountains are beautiful, and in fact we can see some of this range out the front windows of our house. Specifically, the ones in Canada. Anyway, East of Blaine is the North Cascades National Park.

For some time, Ryan has wanted to drive over that way, through the park and over the pass to the other side of the mountain range. We had been putting it off because it's kind of a long trip, more than 3 hours one way, with only one way there and one way home. Not like you can make a circle. Well, I guess you could, but it would take more than one day and we really hadn't planned that far ahead. Kind of at the end of the line is a small town called Winthrop. It's a little town that looks like it's pulled right out of the 1800. A little gold mining town. Ryan decided we'd take a picnic lunch and see how far we could get.
Well, we made it. It was quite the drive and the mountains were absolutely spectacular. We had some ice cream in Winthrop, toured around the town a little and then headed for home. It was quite a nice day.
