Cider Pressing Party

On Saturday afternoon, we went to a Cider Pressing Party, hosted by one of the other managers that Ryan works with. The girls were excited to go, until they saw the dogs! Needless to say, it was an adventure for the first couple of hours. But, as you can see in the pictures, they finally forgot about the dogs and had fun washing the apples and feeding them into the cider press.

To top things off, it was cold, windy and rainy. We spent most of the time outside in the garage, as the cider pressing was out there and the electricity was out in the house. We finally decided that it was time to leave and head to our dry home WITH electricity. Well, what do you know. We got home and it was dry but.......no electricity! I guess all of the strong winds knocked out the power in our county as well as several surrounding counties. We got home about 6:30 p.m. and the power didn't come back on until about 10:30 p.m. Apparently we have not had a power outage in any of our homes since we have had children. They were beyond mesmerized. So much so, that at 7:15, it was bedtime. It was dark anyway!

And on Sunday, my aching arms (from holding one or more children at a time for 3 hours!) were ever present reminders of the screaming, terrified of dogs, children that I am raising. We really should get them a small pet so they won't be too warped when they grow up!

Knowing my children, that's probably something they would like.

My gosh!! How many bazillion gallons of cider did you end up with from all those apples??? Did you get any of it? How interesting for the girls! As for a pet, I was thinking hamster or gerbil.....maybe even a rabbit. Snake would never have entered my mind. But.....a snake might eat all your spiders. *shrugs* I used to chat with a guy on the computer who had a tarantula for a pet. I can't begin to tell you how much I don't even want you to THINK about that.

I'm not sure how much cider they got. Not as much as you would think. At one time I heard someone say something about 31 bottles, which would be almost 16 gallons, right? As for the pet, no need to worry about a tarantula! Hamster or gerbil is a good idea.

With a snake, you wouldn't have to worry about a visit from you know who.

31 bottles = almost 16 gallons?

Kinda depends on the size of the bottles, don't it???
